top music videos

STYLUS magazine just published
  • a top 100 music videos of all time list.
  • it is wonderful. every video is there for display at your convienience courtesy the good people there at you tube.

i could hardly justify qualifying myself as a determinate for the greatest music videos of all time, but i would very much like to offer up a few that have influenced me, spoken to me, or just flat out kicked my ass. so i give to you, my two "favorite" music videos of all time. you may argue that they aren't the best, but you cannot argue that they are not my favorites. at this exact moment in time.

"sabotage" by the beastie boys - directed by spike jonze (1994)

"sorry miss jackson" by outkast - directed by brian barber (2000)

    mogwai "mr. beast"

post-rock takes many of it's collective cues from brian eno's school of ambient music. "mr. beast", mogwai's latest effort, is no exception. instead of creating moods by eliminating tension, mogwai, like eno, tend to dwell on counterpoints natural to melody and rhythm. heavily produced, this record plays out like a collision between "siamese dream" and "here come the warm jets." the scottish quintet uses quaint piano lines to play against soaring, bob mould-ish, guitar overtures, to create music that not only evokes a place or time, but also engages the listener. great record.
